This subject covers those research strategies and methods of data collection most suited to the field of Islamic Studies and its sub-disciplines. It provides an overview of contexts within which enquiry is undertaken, and introduces candidates to the role and potential of research in the specific discipline of Islamic Studies in relation to contemporary issues and/or topics which intersect with social and political sciences. The subject discusses and evaluates sources which are considered essential for the various sub-disciplines of Islamic Studies. There is also focus on research traditions and paradigms relevant to the candidate's discipline, and the nature of the research process, including planning and designing a research project.
