ITC358 Cyber Security (8)

This subject provides in depth analyses of some of the key cyber security concepts. Students will be introduced to the security threat environment as well as various defensive mechanisms, with a focus on operating system security, program security, host and application hardening and data protection techniques. Some of the emergent information and communication technology security related topics, such as, dark web, Internet of Things (IoT) security and digital forensics will also be briefly discussed.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to analyse fundamental cyber security concepts;
  • be able to explore and critique some of the security implications of operating systems and computer programs;
  • be able to compare and contrast authentication and access control mechanisms;
  • be able to propose measures for data protection, host hardening, application security and physical security; and
  • be able to discuss basic concepts of emergent cyber security topics, such as digital forensics, the dark web and IoT security.
