In this subject, students will learn to reflect upon and practise a number of key academic and workplace professional skills. These include academic writing skills that make use of appropriate referencing techniques, as well as professional workplace behaviour. Students will develop ethical problem solving skills in the context of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The subject will also introduce students to strategies to overcome communication barriers along with highlighting the importance of good interpersonal communication. Students will develop skills to recognise and adjust their communication approach according to the need and situation.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to critically evaluate the roles and responsibilities of an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) professional;
  • be able to convey written information credibly, drawing on academic conventions of citations and referencing to evidence and substantiate an argument;
  • be able to analyse and evaluate ethical problems from the viewpoint of ICT professionals using the Australian Computer Society Code of Ethics; and
  • be able to use appropriate written and/or verbal communication mediums to convey complex knowledge and ideas to professional and general audiences.
