This subject provides students with a sound knowledge in the practice of operational intelligence, including tactical intelligence. The subject will equip students with an understanding of operational intelligence principles, and mastery of the relevant industry skill sets required to work effectively as an intelligence practitioner in tactical or operational intelligence environments.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • reflect critically on the changes to the role of intelligence in supporting operational investigative objectives (including small and large operations) in multi-disciplinary teams;
  • collect, analyse, consolidate and synthesise operationally relevant information and produce intelligence products;
  • use and apply a range of operationally relevant analytical tools, software and research methodologies to support tactical and/ or /operational intelligence activities;
  • describe and explain a range of trends and threats, and provide solutions and recommendations to address trends and threats;
  • think critically about contemporary issues in information and knowledge management as well as their impact on the operational intelligence practitioner role; and
  • determine key legal and ethical issues for the provision of effective decision making support.
