MHP309 Complex: Alcohol and Other Substances Use (8)

Building on the understanding of alcohol and other drug withdrawal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous people, students will investigate the use of medication management and withdrawal scales in the acute withdrawal state. They will go on to examine the implications of long term alcohol and other drug misuse. This will include cognitive impairment, physical health and mental health outcomes. The concept of dual diagnosis and treatment options for managing people with complex mental health and alcohol and other drug presentations will be explored. Finally, therapeutic skills will be considered in the treatment and management of clients in this complex field.
