MRS520 The Advanced Practitioner in Medical Radiation Science (8)

This subject explores the characteristics, complexities and challenges of Advanced Practice to prepare medical radiation science practitioners to meet future possibilities for Advanced Practice, whilst reflecting on the contemporary issues in health. The core function of an Advanced Practitioner is to engage in expert clinical practice to deliver innovative high quality, person-centred care. In this subject, students will develop an in depth understanding of Advanced Practice across current applications in healthcare and be able to critically evaluate and explore opportunities within their own clinical setting including viability and sustainability.

Assumed Knowledge

Undergraduate degree in MRS and clinical experience in MRS.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to critically evaluate the role and characteristics of Advanced Practice within medical radiation science informed by a synthesis of appropriate evidence-based literature;
  • be able to analyse the complexities of health and healthcare delivery in relation to their own practice setting with consideration of evidence-based practice and relevant legal, social and ethical factors;
  • be able to critically appraise the scope for Advanced Practice implementation and evaluation within the medical radiation sciences and their own practice setting; and
  • be able to critically reflect on their own professional development and/or contribution to the professional development of others to improve healthcare delivery within their own professional setting.
