MRS555 Advanced Principles in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (16)

This subject covers advanced physical principles and imaging techniques including instrumentation in the field of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). It briefly reviews the foundational physics of MRI and extensively considers the physics of advanced principles and techniques. The following subject topics will be covered: perfusion, fMRI, non-proton imaging, MR angiography, MR spectroscopy, diffusion, 3D sequences, MR contrast, fat suppression techniques and K-space sampling as well as coil design, MRI safety and MRI quality assurance.

No offerings have been identified for this subject in 2022.

Where differences exist between the Handbook and the SAL, the SAL should be taken as containing the correct subject offering details.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to discuss and apply the foundational physics principles of MRI;
  • be able to evaluate, analyse and critically discuss the advanced principles of MRI covered in this subject and professionally communicate this information using discipline terminology;
  • be able to assess quality in MRI and recommend improvements in clinical protocol designs; and
  • be able to explain and assess coil and other MR hardware designs taking into account safety considerations.
