Students undertaking this subject will develop their capacity to appreciate the importance of nursing and midwifery research to inform practice and health care. The significance of being able to appraise research and apply it to practice is highlighted. This subject focuses on developing a fundamental understanding of the research process, research designs, and major data collection and analytical methods. Skills necessary to understand published research are introduced. It includes ethical and cultural considerations to research, how to critique the literature and how to inform and change practice based on evidence.
