The subject is designed to extend the knowledge, skills and attributes of health professionals with leadership and management responsibilities working in the health sector and those intending to enter into leadership roles. Contemporary leadership theory and models will be explored and related to a variety of health disciplines. Content including ethical and legal issues, delegation, diversity, evidence based practice, stress management, quality improvement and recruitment and retention of an emerging multigenerational workforce will be examined within the context of health care. Students will be expected to actively participate and critically analyse core texts, relevant data bases and reading materials. There is an expectation that students will apply this knowledge by demonstrating or role modelling leadership and initiating change within the organisations they work; and, contribute to current health service structures to lead and manage professional health care teams.
