This subject provides students with theoretical knowledge of the assessment, management and prevention of chronic wounds in the podiatric context. Students will be introduced to key terminology that is used to facilitate the development and delivery of culturally safe health care to Indigenous Australian peoples. Analysis of current demographic and health statistics for Indigenous Australian peoples, with combined knowledge of diabetes and wound care, will equip students to work respectfully with high risk clients to reduce morbidity and to prevent lower extremity amputations. Students will further develop their pharmacological knowledge of a range of medicines relevant to the medical management of diabetes and the treatment of infection.
