PSY565 Neurodevelopmental Disorders (8)

This subject extends students knowledge of conditions of a neurodevelopmental origin, including learning disorders, attention-deficit disorder, autistic spectrum disorders, and the broader range of neurodevelopmental conditions which affect cognition and behaviour throughout the lifespan. Students will examine the diagnostic classification, epidemiology and aetiology of these conditions, and learn how to enhance diagnosis and practice through the conduct of accurate psychological assessments and the selection of interventions.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to identify the presenting features of the range of neurodevelopmental disorders;
  • be able to critically analyse and synthesize a large body of complex information in order to support the assessment and differential diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorders;
  • be able to conduct accurate and efficient psychological assessments of children, adolescents and adults presenting with known or suspected neurodevelopmental disorders;
  • be able to identify optimal interventions for accurate and efficient psychological assessments of children, adolescents and adults presenting with known or suspected neurodevelopmental disorders; and
  • be able to produce accurate, detailed and informative psychological reports.
