In this subject, students will develop their knowledge and skills in the practice areas of acquired language and cognitive communication disorders caused by neurological illness such as stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI), progressive neurological diseases and dementia. Students will explore the causes, effects and impact of these acquired disorders utilising the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) framework to guide their learning. Assessment and intervention approaches for the areas of acquired language disorders and cognitive communication disorders will be explored and applied to cases to develop application of theory to practice.
