SPH511 Foundations of Speech Pathology (8)

In this subject, students develop knowledge of typical voice and speech production, and swallowing. This knowledge is then applied to the context of ageing, identifying and differentiating processes of typical ageing from disease processes. Students learn about speech pathology assessment and intervention through exploration of speech pathology documents, the use of online technologies, and through clinical placement experiences. In addition, students develop their professional and academic communication and reasoning skills, integrating information from a range of contexts.

Workplace Learning

This subject contains a 4 days Compulsory Workplace Learning component.

Placement: 4 days of WPL involves active observations during the semester. In addition, there will be WPL activities during the 4-day residential school.

The workplace learning in SPH511 facilitates the scaffolding of development of clinical skills from the first year of the Master of Speech Pathology. Students will have opportunities to experience and apply their knowledge to authentic speech pathology practice contexts. The use of active online observation allows for students to complete components of their workplace learning while in their home environments.
