This subject extends students' knowledge of quality animation through theory, research, performance, practice and production. The subject draws upon the principles of traditional animation, acting and experimentation and applies this understanding to modern digital techniques across a diverse range of media. Students apply this knowledge through informed critical analysis and gain experience in creating real-time animated projects.

Assumed Knowledge

Students are assumed to have a working knowledge of the practice of producing 3D animation for a range of media uses; and be able to demonstrate an appreciation of the creative potential of 3D based production. Students who do not have this knowledge are advised to take VFX105 and VFX106 before attempting this subject.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to describe the history, theory and practice of interactive animation;
  • be able to demonstrate skills and production sense to create their own real-time animation;
  • be able to demonstrate proficient knowledge of the software and hardware employed in the animation industry;
  • be able to demonstrate creative and innovative individual approaches and aesthetics towards their works; and
  • be able to critically reflect on the creative potential of interactive animation.
