Graduate Diploma in Counselling

The course is designed to provide fourth year training in psychology for students interested in pursuing a career in counselling.

The course has two strands:
· general;
· school counselling.

Admission criteria

Applicants for either strand should hold a degree from a university or college which includes a three year major in psychology accredited by the Australian Psychological Society, completed no longer than 10 years ago, and should be personally suitable for work in the counselling field.

Professional recognition

The Graduate Diploma in Counselling is accredited as a fourth year psychology course by the Australian Psychological Society.

Course requirements

To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 64 subject points.

Residential schools

Compulsory residential schools are held on campus each session. In some subjects, attendance at weekend schools may be required. Students will be notified of precise residential school dates in the preceding session.

Only students sponsored by the NSW Department of Education or other school systems are accepted into the school counselling strand.

 Students sponsored by the NSW Department of Education must do a one-session supervised School Counselling Practice.
