The Graduate Diploma of Psychology is aimed at two groups of students. It is designed for graduates who do not have a psychology major, but who wish to pursue a career in psychology, giving them the opportunity to obtain the necessary accredited, undergraduate psychology major over two or three years of part-time study, usually by distance education. The course is also designed for those who wish to update their undergraduate psychology degree.

Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree from an appropriate tertiary institution and must have completed subjects PSY101 and PSY102 or their equivalents.
To conform to the Australian Psychological Society (APS) requirements, credit for psychology subjects taken at other institutions can only be granted for equivalent subjects in APS accredited courses.
Credit in the Graduate Diploma of Psychology will be given:
a) for individual psychology subjects studied within the last ten years that were part of an undergraduate psychology major accredited by the APS; and
b) where a full APS accredited psychology major was completed over ten years ago, credit may be given for up to four second year psychology subjects.
Two foundational subjects must be completed prior to entry to the Diploma.
To fulfil APS requirements students must complete ten approved psychology subjects, including the compulsory subject PSY201 (Research Methods in Psychology), PLUS at least four level 3 subjects. Three of these third level subjects must have residential schools. This Diploma is awarded upon fulfillment of APS requirements, consisting of two foundational subjects and eight subjects completed within this course.
