Graduate Certificate in Professional & Applied Ethics

This course is designed to meet the need for training in professional ethics in the professions, including the Public Service and business.

The course focuses on the following areas: specific ethical issues and dilemmas that arise in the particular professional contexts dealt with in the electives chosen; ethical theory, including central notions such as social justice, merit, individual liberty, freedom of communication, privacy, duty of care, informed consent, confidentiality, utility, the work ethic and collective responsibility and logical reasoning, including logical fallacies.

Admission requirements

Applicants should hold a degree or diploma from a recognised tertiary institution or equivalent.

Credit

There is no credit available for this Graduate Certificate. However, in some cases a student may apply to the Course Coordinator to substitute other subjects if they can demonstrate competence by virtue of previous studies in recognised award courses. Substitution does not reduce the number of subjects required to complete the course.

Articulation

The Graduate Certificate in Professional & Applied Ethics can articulate to a variety of postgraduate courses, including the Master of Social Science (Welfare & Social Policy) and the Master of Business (Human Resource Management).

Course requirements

To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 32 subject points.
