Graduate Certificate in Social Research

The Graduate Certificate in Social Research is designed to train graduates in social research and equip them with the knowledge, competencies and practical skills required to conduct research independently. The course covers quantitative and qualitative research, including feminist research and the use of computers in social investigation.

Admission requirements

Applicants should hold a degree or diploma from a recognised tertiary institution or equivalent.

Credit

There is no credit available for this Graduate Certificate. However, in some cases a student may apply to the Course Coordinator to substitute other subjects if they can demonstrate competence by virtue of previous studies in recognised award courses. Substitution does not reduce the number of subjects required to complete the course. Residential school requirements may be dropped where statistical and computer competence can be proved.

Course requirements

To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete
32 subject points and satisfy requirements at residential schools.

Residential school requirements

Students are expected to attend a five day residential school to be held in Autumn session, during which workshops in statistics and computer programs will be held and research projects will be discussed.
