The course is designed for graduates of any discipline who wish
to gain a professional qualification in journalism. The course
aims to prepare students for entry-level positions in journalism.

Full-time 1.5 years (3 sessions)*
The final session subject (Journalism Project) can be taken part-time
over a full year.
Course requirements
To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 96 subject
points taken as the equivalent of eight 8-point subjects and a
major project of 32 subject points equivalent to a dissertation.
All students must complete:
- two foundation theory subjects designed to provide the necessary
background and context for news and public affairs reporting;
- one specialist subject detailing aspects of media law and
ethics as they affect professional journalism practice;
- four specialist subjects in journalism designed to prepare
students for entry level positions in journalism and public affairs
reporting in both public and commercial media;
- a seminar subject which examines problems and issues confronting
journalism practice and involves a major research paper and seminar
presentation;
- and
- a journalism project of thirty two subject points, comprising
a major series of news stories and features either for print or
broadcast media and examining a significant social, cultural or
political trend in Australia or overseas.
