The course is designed to provide graduates who already occupy senior level positions in the mainly private sector, with the capacity to identify, plan and implement innovative strategic marketing approaches which are responsive to a changing environment. With that aim, the course emphasises the themes of: management of change, management of complex systems/relationships, strategic marketing planning, innovation and pragmatic relevance to organisational needs and emerging market practice.

The course providers are the International Marketing Institute of Australia (IMI) and Charles Sturt University (CSU).

Graduates will gain specialised professional skills within a broad framework of business knowledge. IMI, through intensive residential programs will conduct the professionally oriented first year of the course and will award successful applicants the Graduate Diploma of Strategic Marketing. The Graduate Diploma, at Credit level or above, qualifies participants to enter the final two years of the Master of Strategic Marketing course to be taught at CSU.

Admission requirements

IMI Graduate Diploma course

Applicants must possess an undergraduate degree, or qualifications deemed equivalent by the IMI Graduate Diploma Course Committee, and at least four years relevant industry/organisational experience. A minority of places in the Graduate Diploma are reserved for people who have demonstrated outstanding managerial competence, but do not have a first degree.

Masters Degree course

Applicants are required to have an undergraduate degree from a recognised tertiary institution, or a qualification deemed to be equivalent, and have completed the IMI Graduate Diploma in Strategic Marketing course at Credit level or above, and at least four years relevant industry/organisational experience.

Applicants without an undergraduate degree who have completed the IMI Graduate Diploma in Strategic Marketing at Credit level or above, and who have substantial senior business experience, will be considered.

Credit for previous study

Credit of up to a maximum of four subjects may be given to a student who has completed equivalent study at Masters level at a recognised tertiary institution.

Course requirements

To graduate from the Master of Strategic Marketing, students must satisfactorily complete the IMI program and eight Charles Sturt University subjects. Participants should have access to a personal computer and specified related equipment, to supplement computer facilities provided by IMI and Charles Sturt University.

Course structure

Year 1 is conducted by IMI, and consists of approximately 250 hours of structured learning by participation in five face-to-face programs and two related projects.

Years 2 and 3 are conducted by Charles Sturt University, and consist of eight subjects, with compulsory attendance at regular workshop meetings.
