The aim of the course is to provide human resource practitioners and others with a quality practical and theoretical understanding of human resource management (HRM). The course will increase the knowledge and skills of human resource professionals; develop the knowledge of managers about how HRM impacts their management role; enable participants to recognise the changing role of HRM in organisational settings; provide participants with skills to evaluate the contribution of HRM techniques to the solution of individual and organisational performance problems; and increase the awareness of all participants of the Australian HRM environment.

Professional recognition

Graduates of this course meet the requirements for membership of the Australian Human Resource Institute (AHRI).

Admission criteria

Applicants are required to have an undergraduate degree from a recognised Australian tertiary institution or a qualification deemed to be equivalent. Applicants with other academic and/or professional qualifications and/or work experience acceptable to the University will be considered.

Credit for previous study

Credit is not available for this course. However, if a student can demonstrate competence in up to two subjects by virtue of previous studies in recognised award courses, the student may apply to the Course Coordinator to substitute other subjects. Unlike credit, substitution does not reduce the number of subjects required to complete the course.

Credit for further study

Upon completion of the Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management, students who continue into the Master of Business (General Management) will receive credit for the following subjects.

Upon completion of the Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management, students who continue into the Master of Business (Human Resource Management) will receive credit for any four of the following subjects.

Course requirements

To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete four eight-point subjects.

Students must choose two of the following:

HRM522 Applied Personnel Management

HRM523 Advanced Studies in Industrial Relations

HRM527 Issues in Training & Development

MGT540 Management of Change
