The course has two specialist strands from which candidates select the one most relevant to their professional interests.

Admission requirements

Entry is available to candidates with a three year qualification in education or a degree with an end-on Diploma in Education.

Course requirements

Each strand comprises four subjects and can be completed in one year of part-time distance education study. All subjects are available by distance education and in some subjects there is a residential requirement.

There will be an Orientation Day held on a Saturday in the Autumn session each year for all students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Special Education to introduce new and continuing students to staff, other students and library resources. The date of the Orientation Day will be advised through the Open Learning Institute at the commencement of the Autumn session.
