The Faculty consists of two schools and one Unit:
The two Schools have developed an outstanding reputation over many years in a range of pre-service and in-service education fields. The pooling of the resources of these two Schools and the Unit has created one of the largest and most diverse Faculties of Education in Australia.
The Faculty offers courses ranging from undergraduate to doctoral levels, covering the early childhood, primary, secondary and post secondary areas as well as physical education and vocational education and training. In addition, the Faculty works closely with teachers in identifying and providing for their professional needs, particularly through the Centre for Professional Development in Education.
The Faculty has a very active research program. A number of staff are regularly involved in consultancies within the schools of NSW as well as participating in national and international educational forums.
With the permission of the Faculty and subject to certain stipulations, students may transfer candidature from the Master of Education or the Master of Education (Special Education) degree to the Master of Education (Honours) degree or vice versa with portability of credits gained if appropriate.
Appropriately qualified candidates who are enrolled in the Master of Education (Honours) course and who are performing at a satisfactory level may be permitted to transfer candidature to the Doctor of Philosophy or the Doctor of Education program with portability of credits gained if appropriate.
A Faculty handbook entitled Postgraduate Programs in Education is available from the Faculty Coordinator of Postgraduate Programs or from the Student Administration Office located on each campus.

Prospective and continuing teacher education students are advised that they can expect to be subject to criminal record checks on behalf of potential employers prior to receiving clearance to function as an independent classroom teacher and in order to fulfil the requirements of subjects that include a practicum in schools.
