Graduate Certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)

This course is designed to provide graduates with a firm grounding in the principles, methods and materials of TESOL as a basic qualification for employment in the teaching or administering of any of the following fields:

A further aim of the course is to develop students' conceptual understanding of the TESOL area to enable them to effectively continue studies in TESOL (e.g. at Graduate Diploma or Masters level).

Also available as an intensive full-time eight week course in Summer Session.

Course requirements

To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete four compulsory subjects (eight subject points each to the total value of 32 subject points) and teaching practicum requirements.

Residential schools

Students should consult the Course Coordinator for details of residential schools.

Practicum

Full-time students will be required to complete 50 hours of practical experience in their study session. Part-time students will complete 20 hours in the first session and 30 hours in the second session. The practicum will involve lesson observations and preparation, teaching and reflective analysis.
