or

A minor (40 subject points) consists of five single session subjects, two subjects at Level 1, at least one subject at Level 2 and at least one subject at Level 3.

Subjects outside the Faculty of Arts
In order to comply with the requirement that no more than 64 subject points be taken from outside the Faculty of Arts, the following should be kept in mind:
- all available majors are taught from the Faculty of Arts;
- some of the available minors are taught from outside the Faculty of Arts;
and
- for the faculty of origin of miscellaneous subjects consult the Course Coordinator or Student Administration Centre.
Subject levels
- No more than ten Level 1 subjects (80 subject points) may be counted towards the Bachelor of Arts degree;

and
- some subjects demand prior successful completion of other prerequisite subjects. These prerequisites may be determined from the subject descriptions in this handbook.
Enrolment restrictions
Except by permission of the Course Coordinator in cases where credit has been granted, students are required:
- to take at least three of the first four subjects in their course from major and minor sequences. At least two of these subjects must be from major sequences;
and
- to take at least three of the second four subjects in their course from major and minor sequences. At least two of these subjects must be from major sequences.
Area studies
Within the Bachelor of Arts course structure, it is possible to complete an interdisciplinary area of study. One option, for example, is Women's/Gender Studies. Women's/Gender Studies is a coherent program which draws on women's studies subjects offered in the major disciplines of the Bachelor of Arts. Students should seek further advice from the Course Coordinator on an appropriate selection among their major(s), minor(s) and miscellaneous subjects.
Further advice on the Bachelor of Arts
Further advice on selection of subjects and other aspects of the Bachelor of Arts course, including advice on career opportunities for Arts graduates, may be obtained from the booklet entitled A Student's Guide to the Bachelor of Arts, available from the Student Administration Office or the School of Humanities & Social Sciences.
