Course requirements
To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete a minimum of 192
subject points (normally equal to 24 subjects). No more than 64 subject
points may be taken outside the Faculty of Arts.
Course structure
The course is organised on a basis of three sequences and a number of
miscellaneous subjects.
Students must complete the subject
COM120 Reasoning, Values and Communication
and either:
- two majors; one minor; and two miscellaneous subjects.,
or
- one major; two minors; and five miscellaneous subjects.
If the second option is followed, at least one of the minors must be chosen
from disciplines offering majors.
A major (64 subject points) consists of eight single session
subjects, two subjects at Level 1, at least two subjects at Level2,
and at least two subjects at Level 3.
A minor (40 subject points) consists of five single session subjects,
two subjects at Level 1, at least one subject at Level 2, and at
least one subject at Level 3.

In special circumstances the Course Coordinator may also approve minors
in disciplines not listed above.
Miscellaneous subjects
Miscellaneous subjects may be chosen from the following, providing that
prerequisites for specific subjects are met:
- any of the disciplines in which there are majors and minors;

COM121 Electronic Literacy for the Humanities and Social Sciences (this
subject, available in Spring Session each year, is designed particularly
for BA students who wish to improve their electronic literacy.- Computer
and internet access is mandatory):

In order to comply with the requirement that no more than 64 subject
points be taken from outside the Faculty of Arts, the following should

has been granted, students are required:
Area studies
Within the Bachelor of Arts course structure, it is possible to complete
an interdisciplinary area of study. The main options are Women's/Gender
Studies and Asian Studies. These are coherent programs which draw on subjects
offered in the Major/Minor disciplines of the Bachelor of Arts. Students
should seek further advice from the Course Coordinator on an appropriate
selection among their major(s), minor(s) and miscellaneous subjects.

Professional recognition
The Australian Psychological Society (APS) has accredited the psychology
major as satisfying the first three years towards the requirements for
Associate Membership of the APS. Associate Membership requires four years
of accredited study.
Students intending to enrol in an accredited fourth year program in
psychology must complete a minimum of ten psychology subjects.
It is expected that students will complete Level 1 subjects in
Psychology before progressing to Level 2 subjects, and Level2 subjects
in Psychology before progressing to Level 3.
Distance education students enrolled in the following subjects will
be expected to enrol in residential schools:
