Abstract

This subject aims to foster a greater understanding of the dynamics of visual language through investigations in the Fine Arts. This subject focuses on traditional and contemporary practices in the Fine Arts.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
Upon completion of this subject students will be able to:

- be more conversant with some of the concerns and issues in contemporary Fine Art;
- exhibit an appreciation of the need to develop initial ideas through research and development;
- refine and broaden, through practical experience, the skills required in the application of ideas and propositions;
- display individuality in the interpretation and implementation of various topics;
- develop good organisational skills leading to sound studio practice and workshop management.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
Students will undertake a series of topics designed to extend and develop information received in previous studies. Topics will include for example: - the development of imagery towards an individual approach to art making; - the importance of drawing/sketching as a means of working through ideas, manipulating imagery and spatial relationships; - research into the subject and content of visual images; - the investigation into abstraction; - the relationship of the individual to the environment; - safe studio practice.
