Prerequisite: ASC135 or ASC160
This subject builds on the outcomes of Livestock Production Systems and Horse Structure & Function as they relate to breeding and selection. It investigates in more depth the implications of breeding and selection techniques to optimise/maximise the ability to meet client product specifications. The subject is based on breeding and genetic decision-making and investigates the interactions of reproduction, basic genetics, structural soundness, nutrition and the impact of diseases to achieve specified products and/or outcomes. Breeding and selection methods and different breeding types will also be incorporated.
