EED407 Families, Communities and Early Childhood Services (8)

Abstract

In this subject, students will explore the range of early education services available for families with young children. Students will interview an early education service leader about aspects of a service, critically review the information and present a tutorial seminar that outlines their conclusions. Students will consider a range of family situations and critically review the suitability of services for the families reviewed. Students will apply socio-cultural perspectives to their understanding of children's learning and development and highlight the connection between children, families, communities and early childhood services in Australia.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • develop an understanding of the range and purposes of early childhood services for families in Australia;
  • have engaged with an educational leader in the community to develop a service report, giving a comprehensive overview of the services available in the community;
  • created and delivered a presentation, of open format, based on relevant information gathered in the service report;
  • have engaged in critical reflection about the suitability of particular service options for families in diverse circumstances;
  • have developed an understanding of the strength approach and applied this approach for recommending services for families in complex situations;
  • have an understanding of the importance of socio-cultural perspectives and developed the ability to apply such perspectives to support families.
