EHR422 Work Integrated Learning For Healthy Populations (8)

Abstract

During this subject, students complete a minimum of 140 hours of professional placement in settings catering to apparently healthy clients.  These experiences aim to assist students to fully participate as an emerging professional in the exercise science community, by investigating the operational requirements of the industry, assuming multiple roles and responsibilities, adopting ethical practice and integrating their discipline, practical, interpersonal and reflective knowledge in authentic, real-world professional contexts.

Assumed Knowledge

Students should have an understanding of anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, functional anatomy, exercise prescription and socio-psychological determinants of exercise behavior prior to undertaking this subject.

Available to students in the Graduate Diploma of Exercise and Sport Science or as approved by the Course Director.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

  • be able to actively engage in a professional placement for a minimum of 140 hours.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
  • Undertake 140 hours of professional placement. Students will be required to complete hours toward their healthy population hours requirement for accreditation from Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA).
  • Completion of seven (7) modules of learning: subject and field placement requirements; organising placements; assessment items; opportunity awareness; work integrated learning, action research and problem-based learning; job application process; guide to Pebblepad.

Work Place Learning

This subject contains a Compulsory Workplace Learning component of 140 hours duration. Students are to complete a minimum of 140 hours of professional placement in settings catering to apparently healthy clients.
