EML442 Curriculum Method 2: English (8)

Abstract

This subject examines the wide-ranging nature of matriculation English curriculum content, with due attention given to each of the three significant strands in English curriculum, namely language, literature and literacy, and also including multiliteracies and multimodal texts. Students will develop an understanding of the teaching strategies appropriate to the design, implementation and assessment of high quality Stage 6 English curriculum teaching and learning programs that cater for the needs of diverse learners. NSW curriculum documents are used as exemplars, however completion of this subject enables students to be accredited as secondary English teachers.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to create their own pedagogical Position Statement on the teaching of secondary English;
  • be able to demonstrate professional knowledge;
  • be able to demonstrate an ability to select, analyse and evaluate literary texts and/or non-literary texts;
  • be able to demonstrate an ability to design and plan a two week Stage 6 unit program; and
  • be able to analyse, justify and critically reflect upon teaching and learning activities.
