This subject provides an overview of English for Specific Purposes (ESP). It explores ESP as a field, theory, and method of second language teaching and learning. In particular, it examines the place of context, needs, resources, and assessment. It also invites students to reflect on ESP's implications in relation to their own experiences and practices.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

  • be able to critique key concepts in ESP;
  • be able to understand main theories and principles in current ESP practice;
  • be able to have an in-depth knowledge of several ESP areas; and,
  • be able to develop and review ESP curricula.

  • Future directions of ESP
