ESA516 Leading Learning in Early Childhood Settings (8)

This subject aims to extend early childhood educators' perspectives of effective learning approaches and practices from regional, local and international models of early childhood education and care. The subject focuses on discourses of quality learning models and provides opportunities for students to evaluate beliefs, philosophies and practices in relation to contemporary leadership in early childhood settings. In doing so, students will interrogate their own leadership practices in relation to leadership for learning, and stimulate innovative ideas and recommendations for reshaping learning approaches in early childhood settings.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to evaluate the historical learning perspectives, theories, beliefs and approaches that have shaped Early Childhood education both locally and internationally;
  • be able to analyse key pedagogical developments and challenges in leading learning in Early Childhood education;
  • be able to develop a professional philosophy for leading learning to enhance current practices in Early Childhood settings; and
  • be able to plan to lead learning approaches and to enhance pedagogical practices in Early Childhood settings.

This subject will cover the following topics:
  • Educational leadership strategies that impact learning in Early Childhood across organisational settings
  • Pedagogical trends that are influenced by legislation, government policies, regulations and research across local and global early childhood settings
  • Professional philosophy and practice design that impacts leading learning in Early Childhood settings
  • Organisational planning and implementation to enhance pedagogical practices in Early Childhood settings
