Students will study a range of professional illustration styles and techniques while exploring the potential of illustration and gaining an understanding of its use as a powerful visualisation tool. Students will also develop an awareness of illustration as a profession and its role within contemporary society.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to demonstrate knowledge of the diversity of illustration
  • be able to choose and apply visualisation techniques to a variety of applications
  • be able to produce well researched and well executed illustrations in a variety of illustration styles and mediums
  • be able to demonstrate, through application, an understanding of the ways image and text are used in creating narratives
The subject will cover the following topics:
  • researching and development of ideas and concepts
  • illustration methods
  • approaches to the construction of narratives
  • development of a visual narrative
  • relationships between word and image in illustration
