HLT541 Teaching and Learning in the Clinical Setting (8)

Abstract

The role, responsibilities and attributes of the clinical educator will be explored in this subject with emphasis on the production of an inclusive positive learning environment. Students will build on the theoretical perspectives of teaching and learning and assessment introduced in HLT539 Foundations of Teaching and Learning in Clinical Education and HLT540 Assessment in Clinical Education. The use of simulation and emerging technology and the recognition that clinical reasoning is the core of clinical practice will be central to teaching and learning in the clinical setting. Students will be encouraged to become active participants in learning communities by reflecting on their own personal experiences of teaching and learning. They will also be encouraged to reflect on experiences in their own professional organisations as well as that of health professionals in other disciplines.

  • be able to develop participant outcomes, aligned learning objectives, teaching content, resources and methods in teaching programs.
  • be able to utilise simulation to teach content, assess progress, develop clinical reasoning skills and facilitate learner development of psychomotor and communication skills.
  • be able to demonstrate teaching knowledge and skills.
  • be able to identify and appraise the process and practice of clinical reasoning as it relates to teaching and learning in the clinical setting.
  • be able to create a positive interactive learning environment.
  • be able to actively participate in learning communities to explore and reflect on their own learning and engage in constructive debate and inter professional learning.
