Data has always been an organisational asset, however, with organisations and individuals now producing vast amounts of real-time heterogeneous data (ie Big Data), there is greater demand than ever to manage and use data effectively. In this subject, students will develop an understanding of the issues involved in data management, including planning, infrastructure, and governance, driving the control of data and its lifecycle. Students are also challenged to consider the range of issues related to handling data, including privacy, security, data preservation, ethics, data storage and data distribution.
