INF518 Community Histories (8)

This subject provides an introduction to the development and management of community history collections. Community history collections range from those in formal collecting institutions to the collections of local family, community and cultural groups and organisations. Such collections include those that seek to preserve histories within a specific community or cultural group or geographic area; the historical records of a specific community organisation; or the historical records of a community which is not confined to a specific geographic location, such as online common interest groups. The subject also examines the nature and significance of community history collections and reflects on the interplay between library and archival practices and the implications of community histories existing in a digital world in developing and managing such collections.
