This subject immerses students in video news storytelling, production and authentic newsroom experiences. Students learn production techniques for TV news-style stories and explore contemporary online video news forms and professional practice. Students contribute journalism to the local newsroom in a cross-platform environment ranging from audio to online publishing of their curated video content.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

  • be able to display competent voicing for video and audio;
  • be able to demonstrate creativity in developing different ways of framing online video news;
  • be able to reflect on professional practice, including media law, ethics and safety;
  • be able to curate video stories into edited packages for broadcast or online dissemination; and
  • be able to work competently in teams.

  • TV news conventions, production and scriptwriting, including writing to pictures

Special Resources

This subject requires access to specialist recording equipment and studio facilities. On campus students can access these facilities in the School of Communication and Creative Industries authentic learning spaces. Distance students will either need to work remotely into the campus newsroom or borrow/purchase suitable equipment for their home.
