Law enforcement is entering a new arena as society embraces the emerging technological era. Huge amounts of society's assets are being developed, stored, transmitted, and manipulated using computers and their associated data networks. Law enforcement agencies will need to adapt to these changes as it is here that major crimes are being committed. Computers and crime involve looking at two very different aspects of technology concern. "Computer crime", involves the computer itself becoming an essential element in the crime, such as in opportunities to embezzle assets or funds. The other aspect focuses on "crime involving computers" where computers provide a management tool for the criminal to use, just as it is by any businessman. Particular emphasis will be placed on the complexities involved in the investigation of computer crimes and the legislation that governs this.
