MGT584 Leadership in Teams (8)

Leadership in Teams will explore how leadership relates to teams and how effective leaders adapt to team dynamics. Students will critically examine and research the theoretical perspectives of leading productive teams and facilitating groups. The subject will identify the distinction between team leadership and team facilitation skills. Students will investigate their own ability to lead and facilitate teams utilising team work and members' knowledge and skills. This subject will guide students to reflect on their personal and ethical values and the skills needed to negotiate and facilitate the complexities of leading diverse teams. Relational and communication skills will be developed and applied to coaching and leadership practice.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to critically analyse own leadership styles and reflect on how own leadership skills can be enhanced to achieve high performance in teams;
  • be able to evaluate professional and/or personal experiences in leading teams and critically review effectiveness;
  • be able to distinguish between team leadership, coaching and team facilitation skills and apply skills and communication practices as appropriate; and
  • be able to assess various practice-based situations and apply appropriate leadership approaches, knowledge and skills to lead diverse and a variety of teams in practice based situations.
