OCC320 Occupational Therapy Workplace Learning 1 (16)

In this subject, students complete one supervised occupational therapy workplace learning experience. The workplace learning experience will last for seven weeks; students must complete a minimum of 32 days in this time. This workplace learning experience focuses on working with individuals who experience occupational dysfunction and/or may focus on planning or implementing an occupation-focused project. The workplace learning experience provides students with the opportunity to manage their own caseload and to practice and consolidate their assessment, intervention, and evaluation skills. Students will also develop and consolidate critical evaluation and reflective practice skills. Students are required to pass this placement and related assessment items to pass this subject.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to discuss the complexities of occupational therapy practice;
  • be able to demonstrate competent verbal and written communication strategies;
  • be able to demonstrate appropriate professional behaviour;
  • be able to plan and conduct formal and informal assessments of clients with supervision;
  • be able to design and implement well-reasoned enabling strategies and/or occupation-focused projects;
  • be able to evaluate the effectiveness of the implemented strategies and projects; and
  • be able to achieve a satisfactory rating for all competencies listed on the fieldwork assessment evaluation form.

Workplace Learning

This subject contains a 32 days Compulsory Workplace Learning component.
