This subject focuses on key capabilities required of a professional police officer, including the following range of capabilities: making ethical decisions in accordance with the law, community expectations and organisational policies; communicating with a range of individuals and groups; understanding and dealing with the customer base of the police organisation and recognising potential risks and avenues of corruption inherent in policing. The subject considers these capabilities in relation to key NSW Police Force policies-the Statement of Values, the Code of Conduct and Ethics, the Oath of Office and other associated policies.
