Gynoecium Page The flower is probably the most important source of information when identifying plants. Aspects of the sepals, petals and androecium (stamens) are usually relatively straightforward but interpreting the structure of the gynoecium often causes problems. This web site aims to reduce these problems by illustrating various aspects of the gynoecium such as ovary superior or inferior, number of carpels, etc. The web site does not cover all the intricacies of gynoecium structure but focuses on the major features that are encountered when using keys in books such as the “Flora of New South Wales".
