Study SupportAs a CSU student, we provide you access to academic learning support and skill development. Whether it's support in mathematics, English, exam techniques, essay writing or learning strategies, we can help you to acquire or enhance the skills you need to succeed in university studies.

Learning skills

Support for students' academic skill development including time management, essay writing, note taking, exam techniques and study skills. Assistance is available online, face-to-face and by phone.

Learning skills advisers are available from each CSU campus to assist you to:

  • develop learning strategies that work for tertiary study
  • manage the process of writing essays or reports
  • develop and refine analytical and critical reading skills
  • improve exam techniques
  • enhance academic language and learning skills
  • use study time efficiently and effectively

English support

Support for any student who has difficulties with reading or writing English, regardless of their language background.
An English skills adviser can help if:

  • you need to understand the requirements of an assignment
  • you need help with the structure of an assignment, and the development and consistency of arguments
  • you need assistance with English expression, grammar, spelling, learning to edit your own work, etc.
  • you need confidence in understanding principles of grammar and syntax
  • English is not your first language, and you require help with reading/ comprehension, pronunciation, slang and cultural/social aspects of Australia
  • you need help with vocabulary enrichment, especially for tertiary study
  • you need coaching for oral presentations.

Maths skills

Assistance for those having difficulties in their course with mathematics or statistics

Maths skills adviser can:

  • assist with mathematics or statistics problems
  • develop strategies to strengthen your maths skills
  • provide workshops on identified maths and stats concerns
  • provide access to information on supplementary learning materials such as booklets, texts and videos
  • help you upgrade the prerequisite skills needed for a course, obtain additional individual support in course work, or help you upgrade specific skills such as using a scientific calculator.
