Living on campus FAQs

Applying for accommodation

I deferred my offer from last year. When can I apply for on campus accommodation?

As soon as applications open for new students. This is 19 November for the 2013 intake.

What happens if I do not get accommodation on campus?*

You will be added to the accommodation waiting list and will be notified when something comes up. There is also a register of private off campus accommodation offered by local residents and students of Charles Sturt University.

Accommodation and room options

Is there accommodation for males only or females only?

No. We encourage a mix of students, both male and female, doing various courses from a variety of backgrounds.

Are there accommodation options for students from a similar age group?

At Bathurst and Wagga Wagga, there are accommodation areas that are designated for non school-leaver students. Preference is given to mature age students in these areas as the environment is more conducive to study.

Can I be allocated the same accommodation building as my friends?

Applications for twin share rooms can be made, however requests for single rooms in the same building will be considered, but not guaranteed.

Can I change the room I've been allocated?

You can submit a Room Change Request Form. Your request will be placed on a waiting list for a room in another area. This may take six months or more to be processed, depending on availability. Please note - A room change fee does apply.

If there are problems with my room, what do I do?

Please raise concerns immediately with your Residential Adviser or Student Central.

Catered and self-catered

Can I live in self catered accommodation but be fully catered?

At Bathurst or Wagga Wagga you can do this by applying for a Catered Premium room. This allows you to live in a cottage and have all meals included in your residential fees. Alternatively, you can choose self catered accommodation and purchase meals in the Dining Room where you pay cash or buy vouchers for your meals each time.

If I'm a self catered resident, can I buy dinner from the Dining Room if I need to?

Yes, you are able to purchase meals from the Dining Room as needed. All meals are reasonably priced to suit a student's budget.

If I have a special diet can I still be catered for?

Yes, we have very qualified catering staff that will be able to provide you with meals that suit your dietary requirements, including:

  • Coeliac/Gluten free
  • Lactose intolerance
  • Vegetarian
  • Diabetic
  • Vegan
  • Halal

Just speak with the Catering Manager on campus upon your arrival or at any time during the year. Whilst every effort is made to cater a balanced diet for special needs, if you have a diet that is not covered by this list, please notify Student Central as soon as possible to discuss arrangements for the period of your stay at CSU.

International students

Will Residential Advisors meet international students when they arrive?

Student Support Officers (International) on each campus meet international students when they first arrive. As most students are placed in temporary rooms, they may not get to meet their Residential Advisors on their arrival.

Are international students living in the residences given any privileges?

All students in the Halls of Residence are treated equally. Every student should adhere to the expectations and regulations. Services are available to international students through the Admissions Office.

Room offers, acceptances and changes

How and when do I check into my room?

Residence Life Move in Day for First Year students is held the weekend prior to O Week. The date and times vary for each campus and are detailed in your confirmation letter sent to your email address. The Move-In involves a series of structured activities and information sessions for students and parents/support people. These activities facilitate a smooth transition to living on campus and develops social networks. Detailed information will be sent to your registered email address as supplied to CSU. Please check your email regularly for more information.

If your travel arrangements preclude you from checking in at the given times for your campus, you must contact Student Central to make alternate arrangements. No unarranged late check-in will be available .

I have been offered a room on campus but no longer wish to accept that offer. What do I do?

You must contact Student Central as soon as possible. Please see the Administration Regulations for details.

I have been on the waitlist for on campus accommodation, but I no longer require a room. What do I do?

You must contact Student Central as soon as possible. Please see Administration Regulations for details.

I want to change the preferences I put on my accommodation application. What do I do?

Once you have submitted your application, change of preferences cannot be accepted. You can email your new preference request to Student Central but there is no guarantee that it can be processed.

I want to change the room I have been offered. What do I do?

You have two options:

  1. You can decline the offer of the room and then you will be placed into the ballot (or waitlist) where there is no guarantee that you will be given a room at all. Contact Student Central to register for this choice.
  2. You can keep the room you have been offered and then submit a Room Change Request Form
