Residential Support

Residential AdvisorCharles Sturt University runs the Residential Support Scheme to provide for the pastoral care and welfare of students staying on campus.

Residential Advisors

This scheme employs senior students, called Residential Advisors (RAs), who can assist you with problems of any type, whether this is about your studies, the residences, or some other issue in your life. As students themselves, RAs have a full appreciation of how new students feel and the apprehension some first years may have. They are trained by both internal and external experts on the problems faced by a community comprised solely of young adults.

You will go to your RA in the first instance if you have questions, problems or complaints, or to report maintenance issues relating to your residences. RAs distribute information about residential matters and have a First Aid Certificate to attend to minor emergencies. RAs are not counsellors but they are they are there to help, with specialist training to enable them to refer you to appropriate services both on and off campus.

RAs hold regular block meetings with the residents under their care (between 24 and 48), and social functions are held throughout the year, so there is always something going on!

Other support

Besides the RAs at each campus, there are:

  • Head Residents are senior students experienced in working with young adults, and they are responsible for the support and supervision of a group of RAs. The Head Residents are available for support and guidance for students when required.
  • Two Managers (Residential Operations) who are full time professionals and manage the scheme at each major campus.
  • Five full-time Residential Operations Officers (located at Albury, Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange and Wagga Wagga) who assist the Managers in the areas of residential support and operations.

Additionally, there are staff spread across all the campuses who are involved in the care and management of your quality of life in the Halls of Residence. All are committed and dedicated to providing a high level of assistance to all students residing on campus.
