FAQs

Do you need to receive an ATAR to be eligible for PREP?

Applicants not receiving an ATAR are still eligible and are encouraged to apply for PREP. Remember, PREP places are based on your Principal or nominee’s recommendation as well as the results from your Trial HSC or mid-year exams.

Do you need to be an Australian citizen?

No, international students who intend to study full-time on one of CSU’s campuses can apply. This also includes Australian Permanent Residents and Holders of Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visas.

How will I be notified if I have been successful or not in PREP?

All notifications will be dispatched by mail on the 16 November irrespective of the outcome, so it will probably take a few days to arrive in the post. If there is going to be a delay in notifying you, you will be sent an email advising you of when this will occur.

PLEASE REMEMBER, the PREP notification letter is not an official PREP offer. Official PREP offers to study with CSU are made by UAC. If you receive a successful PREP notification letter and if you wish to accept, you will need to have this course listed as your first preference in UAC to receive an official PREP offer in the UAC December round.

What do I do if I am not at my home when the PREP notification letter is sent?

You will need to give your written permission to someone such as your parents to act on your behalf. Make sure that the person who is acting on your behalf has also been given access to your UAC pin number. Contact CSU directly on the free call number 1800 334 733 if you are unsure.

If I receive a successful PREP notification letter and then receive my official PREP offer through UAC early rounds, can I defer?

The official PREP offer you receive from UAC early rounds can usually be deferred with most CSU courses. However, there are some courses offered by CSU which cannot be deferred. Please see Deferring your offer for a list of the courses which cannot be deferred.

What if my principal is on leave, or is new and doesn’t know me well enough can another teacher fill in the form?

If your Principal is unable to complete the form it should be completed by the Deputy Principal, Careers Advisor or Head Teacher.

What if I was not successful with my PREP application?

PREP is competitive and is just one pathway for entry into Charles Sturt University. There are a greater number of places available in the UAC Main Round Offer (16 January 2014).

If you have listed CSU as a preference in the UAC main round, CSU will reconsider your application and your ATAR results for this round of offers if you have not been made an offer for a course above your CSU preference.

I received a Conditional PREP notification letter. What does this mean?

A conditional PREP notification letter stipulates the ATAR score you will need to achieve to convert your Conditional PREP notification to a guaranteed official PREP offer through UAC in the Early January round. The score listed is inclusive of any bonuses allocated prior to the main round (e.g. regional bonus etc)

E.G. John receives a conditional offer for the Bachelor of Equine Science and the letter advises him that his ATAR (inclusive of all bonuses) must be 70 or above to convert this to a guaranteed offer in the Early January Round. John is advised by UAC that his ATAR is 65. Luckily, John is eligible for CSU’s regional bonus (5 points) which guarantees him an offer in the Early January Round if he has this course listed as his first preference.

Sally receives that same letter and attains the same ATAR as John but is not eligible for any bonus points with CSU. Sally’s conditional PREP notification will not be converted into a guaranteed place in the Early January Round with UAC but her application will still be considered in the Main Round where there are a greater number of places available.

PLEASE REMEMBER if you receive the stipulated ATAR and if you wish to accept, you will need to have this course listed as your first preference in UAC to receive an offer in the UAC Early January round – 3 January 2014.

I have received two letters advising me that both my PREP applications have been successful, what do I do?

In the Early Rounds of offers through UAC, you can only receive an offer to your first preference. If you wish to be made an offer in the early rounds you will need to decide which course you want to do and place this as your first preference

Can I receive another offer after accepting my PREP offer?

Once you have received your official PREP offer through UAC in the Early Round, you can update your preferences if you wish to be considered for another CSU course in the Main Round. This also applies to those applicants who received two PREP offers. The applicant is then competing for a place in the course in the Main Round. There are no guaranteed offers made in the Main Round.

Please refer to Change your preference for more information

Can I apply for PREP if I’m currently doing the Diploma of General Studies at CSU?

No. Given students completing this course already have a mechanism to apply for entry at CSU, PREP is not available.
