Year 10 Information

Year 10If you're in Year 10 and thinking of going to university, then now is the time to think about subjects for Years 11 and 12. Start considering courses beyond high school that are interesting to you!

Year 10 is the time to consider the kind of career you'd like to have after you leave school, whether you'd like to go on to study at university, and what subjects you should elect for the HSC.

How do I choose my subjects for Years 11 and 12?

There are a number of things to think about when it comes to choosing subjects for the HSC:

  • Choose subjects you like and feel you can do well in.
  • Consider your career options and the kind of job you want in the future. If you can, choose subjects you can use in your future working life or study, however this is not always necessary. More about career planning
  • Decide if you want to study at university. If you do, then you'll need to think about what subjects will help you get into the course you want to study. Keep in mind that many universities have prerequisite subjects that students must undertake in years 11 and 12 to gain entry into the course.

Ultimately, the best way to give yourself the most options is by achieving well at the HSC (or equivalent) and gaining a higher ATAR.

What if I'm not sure what I want to do?

While selecting subjects for Year 11 and 12 can be an important step to university, don't worry if you don't know what you want to do yet, or if you change your mind about your career direction, because;

  • some CSU degrees have similar subjects in the first year, which allows students to commence a course and, if they wish to change, apply to another course after the first year with credit for subjects completed.
  • CSU offers several general studies courses, including the Bachelor of Business Studies, Bachelor of Educational Studies, Bachelor of General Studies (Science) and the Bachelor of Liberal Studies (Arts), that allow you to construct a program of study to suit your own needs.
  • students can also study one subject at a time through CSU's Single Subject Study program, which is a great way to sample university study before commencing your degree.

Career planning

Year 10 is an important year as it's a time to consider life beyond high school. Start thinking about career options that appeal to you, and whether you'll need to apply to do a course at university.
