Teaching Facilities

Officers on horseback

The teaching facilities at the NSW Police Force Academy allow for a range of practical training and scenario work. There are standard lecture theatres similar to those found on a mainstream university campus, as well as smaller rooms for tutorial work where students are briefed on a range of issues and given, for example, detailed instruction on law and ethical issues with plenty of opportunity for open discussion and debate.

A police station, complete with lock-up, means students get a feel for their future profession and are given practical instruction in how to deal with offenders whilst maintaining the safety of themselves, their colleagues and members of the public.

Training the police recruits about safety is of paramount importance, there are many hands-on classes in weaponless defence involving close instruction from experienced police officers.

Weapons training continues during Session 2, when students attend the firing range for target practice and instruction on the safe use of a firearm.
