Small Class Sizes

Smaller class sizes is one of the things that makes CSU different to other universities. Many of our students and alumni comment that the smaller student cohorts at CSU allows for quality relationships and lifelong friendships to form.

Benefits of smaller classes:

  • lecturers and tutorials can be as small as 15-30 students which allows for intensive learning and interaction with lecturers and fellow students, providing a more personalised study experience

Benefits of a smaller student population on campus:

  • a large percentage of our students (Australian and international) move away from home for the first time to attend CSU, so students say they become each other’s families
  • this provides a warm and friendly environment, with plenty of social activities to help students meet and make friends with other students
  • Exterior view of the Learning Commons
  • Courtyard with outdoor seating and lawn areas
  • Interior view of the Learning Commons

History of CSU in Port Macquarie

The first intake of students at CSU Port Macquarie was in March 2012. This represented a new chapter for CSU as this was our first coastal regional campus. It provided opportunities for students to study close to the beach and options for local students to access world-class higher education close to home.

In April 2016, staff and students moved into Stage One of their purpose built campus. There are another two stages expected to be completed over the coming years with a projected student intake of 5000 by the year 2030. The next few years will see continued growth of courses offered at the Port Macquarie campus. CSU representatives are building relationships with the local community, in business, government and other educational institutions, to ensure that the Campus is a significant contributor to the future of the entire region.
